Fighting game fans love cross overs. So much that we have been asking for Street Fighter Vs Mortal Kombat for a while. Well Ono says we almost got it. Apparently Nether Realm was talking about a SF cameo. A proposal that Capcom said no to.
“It’s true that a proposal for a Street Fighter character in Mortal Kombat was rejected by Capcom. But it wasn’t me personally! There were many people at the company that felt that it wasn’t a good fit for our characters. I actually met Ed at the Brazil game show and spoke to him personally about it. So it’s true – but I didn’t make the decision!” Ono
But that was then. What about now? Well Ono has mixed feelings as he doesn’t see this working with everyone.
“There’s part of me that thinks that would be such a cool dream. There’s another part of me that says, ‘There’s no way that would satisfy everybody.’ Even if we said, ‘okay, it’s rated M so we can tear Ryu’s head off,’ the games play so differently, there’s different pacing, there are different fundamentals with both of them.” Ono
He does have a point. Tearing people apart doesn’t really work for SF very well. On the hand that is for character like Ryu. I can see this working for other character such as Akuma, Vega, Juri as it is what they do. But it seems it is not to happen as Eurogamer was given a response of.
“That was the major concern of our licensing.” Ono
But what do you think. Will it ever happen? Will we ever have Liu Kang and Ryu trading fireballs? Let me know your thoughts.
